Le mot ne serait-il pas la chose la plus précieuse pour l’homme?
À l’ère de la consommation, les mots tendent à être traités avec la même désinvolture que tout autre objet, ce qui me semble dangereux pour le devenir de l’humanité. Ainsi s’explique pourquoi les mots, principalement écrits, sont au centre de mon travail artistique.

Les œuvres exposées à la galerie Ham sont réalisées essentiellement à partir des lettres de l’alphabet agrandies et découpées dans du caoutchouc, de dictionnaires compressés, ou de pages de dictionnaires transformées en graines. Ce sont autant de tentatives pour inviter à porter un regard autre sur les lettres ou signes qui forment toute langue, et prendre ou reprendre pleinement conscience de la valeur de l’écriture pour l’humanité.

Would not words be the most precious thing for man?
In the age of consumption, words tend to be treated with the same casualness as any other object, which seems to me dangerous for the future of humanity. This explains why words, mainly written, are the center of my artistic work.

The works exhibited at the Gallery Ham are made mainly from the alphabet letters enlarged and cut out of rubber, compressed dictionaries, or pages of dictionaries transformed into seeds. These are all attempts to take a different look at the letters or signs that make up any language, and to take or regain full awareness of the value of writing for humanity.

人間にとって言葉は最も貴重なものではないでしょうか？
しかし言葉は、この消費の時代において、他の消費物と同じようにカジュアルに扱われる傾向があります。これは人類の未来にとって危険だと思います。言葉、特に書き言葉を自分のアート・ワークの中核にしたのはそのためです。

ギャラリーHamに展示する作品は、主にラバーから切り取ったアルファベットの拡大文字、圧縮した辞書、あるいは種（たね）に変換した辞書のページから作成されています。これらは、あらゆる言語を構成する文字や記号を新しい目で見直し、人類にとっての言葉の価値を取り戻す試みです。

Cécile Andrieu / セシル　アンドリュ　・　プロファイル、主個展、グループ展

１９５６年、シャールヴィル・メジエール（フランス）生まれ。金沢在住。
造形美術修士論文のテーマとなった荒川修作の作品により、日本文化に開眼する。１９８２年、日本政府留学生として東京大学で言語及び美学を学び（１９８６年、ソルボンヌ・パリ第一大学人間科学芸術学博士号修得）、人と言葉との関係に集点をあてた新たな芸術製作（オブジェ、インスタレーション）に打ち込む。作品は主に日本、ベルギー、チェコ共和国、フランス、スイスで展示されている。
